Menucha Retreat and Conference Center Job Description

Host / Hostess

Non-Exempt Department: Kitchen

FTE: Reports to: Shift Supervisor

Menucha believes that every employee makes a significant contribution to our success. That contribution should not be limited by the following assigned responsibilities. Therefore, this job description is designed to outline primary duties, qualifications and job scope, but not limit the employee or Menucha to just the work identified. It is our expectation that every employee will offer his/her service wherever and whenever necessary to ensure the success of our mission.

General Summary

Welcome guests and make them comfortable, serve meals and clear tables, and make sure guest needs are met.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare tables for meal
  • Welcome guest and help them understand meal procedure
  • Prepare and serve drinks
  • Prepare and serve first course (salads, fresh vegetables, etc.)
  • Prepare and set-up buffets as appropriate
  • Serve main course
  • Talk with guests to assure their needs are met
  • Clear tables
  • Serve desert as appropriate
  • Clean tables and prepare them for the next meal
  • Assist dishwashers
  • Assist cooks with kitchen clean-up

Job Scope

Job involves recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm and involves a moderate level of complexity. This job requires public speaking and a high level of flexibility.

Supervisory Responsibility

Job requires no supervisory responsibilities.

Interpersonal Contacts

Contacts are made with Menucha staff and guests. Contact is 100% face-to-face.

Specific Job Skills

  • Preparation of cold foods
  • Use of kitchen equipment
  • Health department guidelines
  • Menucha procedures
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with guests

Education and/or Experience

  • High School or equivalent
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license and food handlers card required

Job Conditions

Activities require a high degree of mobility. Employee must be able to climb stairs, lift/carry up to 50 pounds of furniture, supplies and equipment.

  • Interpersonal skills and teamwork
  • Use of English language, including reading, writing, speaking and understanding
